TOURISM - Exibition to highlight nation's tourism potential

Resort developer and operator Phuquocland plans to hold the first Viet
Nam Tourism Property Opportunities Conference and Exhibition on April
17-18 in HCM City.
Phuquocland managing director Than Thanh Vu spoke to Viet Nam News
reporter Van Nga about the economic significance of the exhibition and
the opportunities it will offer participants.

What's your concept of "tourism property"?

The concept of tourism property is quite new with many local enterprises
and refers to infrastructure serving tourism including resorts, hotels,
villas and entertainment areas, much like real estate for industrial
zones, office buildings and housing. We created the term to
comprehensively embrace the field in this conference.

So, what gave you the idea for the exhibition?

A survey by the Asian Business
Council ranked Viet Nam as the world's third most attractive destination
for Asian business in 2007-09. The World Investment Report 2007 of the
UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) reveals that 11 per cent
of multinational groups surveyed see Viet Nam as their most attractive
investment destination in the next few years.

Compared to other countries, Viet Nam has a stable political regime and
safe environment and is considered an up-and-coming tourism destination
which needs improving. Viet Nam Tourism Property Opportunities will be
the biggest international conference to introduce Viet Nam tourism
potentials and the hottest opportunities in the hospitality,
entertainment and leisure sectors to investors. It will contribute to
boosting investment in tourism.

The conference also opens a workable medium for provinces with tourism
potential to help investors explore the latest trends in the Viet Nam
tourism property market and understand the best investment approaches in
Viet Nam.

Who will attend the conference and exhibition?

The target participants for the event including foreign investors with a
keen interest in the tourism real estate sector who wish to find
partners and raise capital for projects, as well as local governments
calling for investment, real estate developers, property management and
consulting firms, and finance companies and banks.

What will participants gain from the event?

The exhibition will raise provinces' sense of initiative and provide a
unique chance to seek resources from many selective global investors and
worldwide partners to develop and implement prioritised tourism
projects. Provincial leaders will have opportunities to sit down with
industry experts to learn lessons in how to take full advantage of
foreign investment.

For investors, the conference will offer insights into the changing
legal landscape as well as allow them to get answers to their questions
and hear practical advice from experts and previous investors.

Viet Nam Tourism Property Opportunities will present a chance for all to
make direct contact with project owners, investors and developers in
Viet Nam and overseas.

Will this be an annual event?

A two-day exhibition in HCM City has attracted the participation of 15
provinces, seven sponsors and dozens of investors so far and we hope for
more as the event approaches. Participants can register as late as two
weeks before the opening day of April 17 and receive necessary programme
documents.

We have been preparing for the event since July and have received
positive feedback from provincial authorities and foreign investors

With the support of Grant Thornton, a global auditing and consulting
company, Millennium Group, an Asia-Pacific tourism property development
group, and other partners at home and abroad as well as local
authorities, a lot of contacts will be made leading to mutual benefit.
We plan to hold the event every year from now on with diversified themes
each year.

To do this, we also hope to receive the positive assistance from the
Government, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Viet Nam
National Administration of Tourism, the Ministry of Culture, Sport and
Tourism and provincial authorities nationwide. - VNS
